Basic information about spark plugs (drying)

06/04/2020

What is a drying spark plug?

Drying spark plugs are used for diesel engines, spark plugs help to start the car best in cold weather conditions.

Diesel engines work by compressing the fuel mixture under such great pressure that it ignites automatically. By not using sparks, diesel engines need a large compression ratio to push the temperature up. This ratio sometimes reaches 20:1 while the average gasoline engine only needs 9.5:1.

When it is cold, especially in the North in winter, diesel engines will be harder to start than usual due to the following reasons:

- The area of the combustion chamber is large, giving off a lot of heat, so the temperature of the air at the end of the compression period is significantly lost.

- Low compression ratio compared to the unified combustion chamber

- Low injection oil pressure

Common types of drying spark plugs

– The first type is the most common type of spark plug, which is arranged separately for each cylinder.

– The second type is the intake air drying form, which is arranged in the fuel line.

In the first form, the drying system operates to assist in starting the engine using the spark plug. As for the second type - the type that uses the precharger - after the engine has started, this unit will still operate for a certain period of time (the engine temperature reaches the required level) to ensure Make sure the engine doesn't stall.

How to choose the right spark plug?

Users need to consider the following basic specifications when choosing a spark plug:

Engine type: The spark plugs used for turbo engines will be different from those used for non-turbo engines and it is recommended by the manufacturers not to mix these two types together. The way to distinguish it is that the type used for turbo engines often has the letter "P" on the parameter series.

Voltage type: There are 2 main types of voltage, one using 12V voltage, this type is often used for civil cars. One type uses 24V voltage for trucks. Besides, there are also some types that use 5.6V or 9V for extremely fast drying to make the car easier to start.

Size: Like spark plugs, drying spark plugs also have different sizes depending on the type of engine and each manufacturer.

Hot spark plugs, cold spark plugs: Each type of engine uses a drying spark plug with the appropriate capacity to heat the combustion chamber and is resistant to heat when operating at the maximum power mode. Therefore, if you use it incorrectly, it will not bring efficiency and also reduce the life of the spark plug.

Structure of the spark plug

Spark plugs can be divided into two types, metal spark plugs and ceramic spark plugs, which are distinguished based on the material of the “heat conduction” part.

Basic structure of the spark plug

Common spark plug failures

- Drying spark plugs do not work, damage may be caused by when the electric key is turned on, the contacts of the relay have poor contact, the drying timer is damaged or broken underground, and the relay coil is burnt. drying.

- Drying spark plugs are damaged, do not work due to wrong operation, turn on too many times before starting. The drying timer is damaged, or replaced with the wrong type, low quality.

- The symbol when the drying system is working properly that the light on the dashboard is always on, the light lasts a long time, or it doesn't light up when the electric key is turned on, which is also a sign that the engine drying system is having problems. subject.

- A sign that is also quite easy for you to recognize is that the engine system jerks when it starts to explode, or emits white smoke for a while, then works normally.
