Overview of Spark Plugs (drying)

28/03/2022

DRY BUGI is a part that helps to start the car effectively, especially in cold weather.

When it is cold, especially in the North in winter, diesel engines will be harder to start than usual due to the following reasons:

  1. The area of the combustion chamber is large, giving off a lot of heat, so the temperature of the air at the end of the compression period is significantly lost.
  2. Low compression ratio compared to a unified combustion chamber.
  3. Low injection oil pressure

Manufacturers have solved this problem by using a preheating system to assist in increasing the required initial temperature in diesel or some other non-sparking engines.

WHY DIESEL ENGINE HAS TO USE DRYING BUGI?

Diesel engines work by compressing the fuel mixture under such great pressure that it ignites automatically. Because it doesn't use sparks, diesel engines need a lot of compression to push the temperature up. This ratio sometimes reaches 20:1 while the average gasoline engine only needs 9.5:1. Therefore, when the weather is cold, the engine temperature is low, the engine rpm is low (about 100v / min) not being able to ensure the compression ratio as well as the heat in the compression stroke of the engine, leading to the fuel can hardly ignite on its own, so the engine is difficult to start.

To solve this problem, manufacturers use a preheating system to support the required initial temperature for diesel engines in particular and some other non-sparking engines.

The most common are two types:

- Type of spark plug drying: is the most common type of preheater, arranged separately in each cylinder.

- Type of air intake drying: arranged in the fuel line.

For engines using spark plugs, the heating system is active only to assist in starting. As for the type using the pre-charger, after the engine has started, this unit will still work for a certain period of time (the engine temperature reaches the required level) to ensure that the engine does not die. machine.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE SUITABLE DRY/FUND BUGI?

Users need to consider the basic specifications after choosing a spark plug:

–  Engine type: Drying spark plugs used for turbo engines will be different from those used for non-turbo engines and it is recommended by the manufacturers not to mix these two types together. The way to distinguish it is that the type used for turbo engines often has the letter "P" on the parameter series.

– Loại điện áp: There are two main types of voltage, one that uses 12V voltage, this type is often used for civil cars. One type uses 24V voltage for trucks. Besides, there are also some types that use 5.6V or 9V for extremely fast drying to make the car easier to start.

– Size: Just like spark plugs, spark plugs are also sized differently depending on the type of engine and each manufacturer.

– Bugi nóng, bugi lạnh: Each type of engine uses a drying spark plug with the appropriate capacity to heat the combustion chamber and is resistant to heat when operating at maximum power. Therefore, if you use it incorrectly, it will not bring efficiency and also reduce the life of the spark plug.

STRUCTURE OF THE DRYING BUGI

Drying spark plugs can be divided into 2 types, metal spark plugs and ceramic spark plugs, they are distinguished based on the material of the “heat conduction” part.”.

FREQUENCY DRY BUGI Faults?

  • The drying spark plug does not work, the damage may be due to when the electric key is turned on, the contacts of the relay have poor contact, the drying timer is damaged or broken inside, and the coil of the heating relay is burnt.
  • Dry spark plugs are damaged, do not work due to incorrect operation, and are turned on and off too many times before starting. The drying timer is damaged, or replaced with the wrong type, low quality.
  • The symbol when the drying system works well is that the light on the dashboard is always on, the light lasts a long time, or it doesn't light when the ignition is turned on, which is also a sign that the engine drying system is having problems.
  • A sign that is also quite easy for you to recognize is that the engine system jerks when it starts to explode, or emits white smoke for a while, then works normally.
